Scheduling use of the conference room

The Microbiology-Immunology department has two conference rooms.  One conference room is located on the 6th floor of the Tarry building, in room 6-716, and the second conference room is located on the 3rd floor of the Searle building, in room 3-442.  To see if either of these room are available, please visit; http://bugs.mimnet.northwestern.edu, and then click on the link for the specific conference room you wish to view.  A calendar will appear showing the available times and days.  To schedule time for use of a conference room, contact:  Cynthia Naugles,  at 312-503-0489, or email to: c-naugles@northwestern.edu.

Instructions for using the equipment within the conference room - The Room Technology and Equipment

The Microbiology-Immunology is equipped with and Epson Projector that is permanently mounted in the ceiling.  There are two multi-media input jack-panels located within the room.  Two network jacks are also located next to each media input panel.  There are two hand-held remote controls.  The Epson remote controls the operations of the Epson projector.  The other remote is used when giving a PowerPoint presentation with the built-in computer.

 

A Dell desktop computer is located under the podium in the room.  The computer has internet/network access.  It is loaded with the following software; Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox (internet browsers), Absolute FTP, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat Reader 7, Quicktime Player and Window Media Player (used to play multimedia on the computer), and Microsoft Office 2003 (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

 

When giving a PowerPoint presentation using the Dell desktop computer, the presenter can use the supplied remote control to control slide movement within the presentation.

 

The Dell desktop computer is equipped for wireless keyboard and mouse use.  Locate the wireless keyboard and mouse within the room.  These two devices are to be used when using the in-room computer.

 

Wall Jacks

There are two multimedia wall jacks and two network access jacks located in the conference room.  Each multimedia jack has a; VGA input jack (to plug in a computer), RCA input jack for composite video and left/right stereo audio, and S-video input for high-definition video/audio.  Though not equipped, user can bring in their own multimedia equipment for use with the room…ie…VHS player, DVD player, CD/Cassette player, etc.

Jack One – Jack One is located in the middle of the south wall, across from the tables within the room.  A network jack is located next to Jack One.

Jack Two – Jack Two is located at the front of the room, next to the podium on the north wall of the room.  A network jack is located next to Jack Two.

 

When using the conference room technology, the user has the option to use the built-in computer, with the wireless keyboard/mouse and presenter tool, when giving a PowerPoint presentation, along with using his/her own computer.

 

The following instructions are broke down into two parts.  The first set of instructions, explain how to use the built-in Dell desktop computer.  The second set of instructions, explain how to use a laptop computer within the room.
