What is an E-3 Visa

The E-3 visa is for Australian nationals who come to the US solely to perform services in a specialty occupation.  There is currently no specific maximum duration, however the initial request can only be for three years.

You can now begin interviewing candidates.  After you have selected a candidate contact Jimmy to let him know who you have selected.  At this time, Jimmy will discuss salary options and the recommended start date of your candidate.  Before your candidate can be formally offered the position, they will need to provide their Social Security Number, two references, and pass an educational background check.  Jimmy will contact you once HR has performed their checks and the candidate is ready for hire.

Can I have a volunteer in my lab?

Yes.  We are required to provide insurance coverage for volunteers.  The cost is $20 per week, which can be paid by the PI or the volunteer.  Please bring the volunteer to the office on their first day of work on their first day to sign an insurance benefit plan sheet.

What do I do when my Student, Post-doc, or Technician is leaving my lab

Please have the individual e-mail you, and copy Jimmy Gurchek j-gurchek@northwestern.edu telling you when their last working day will be.  If they are a post-doc, let Jimmy know how many vacation and personal floating holidays they have not used.  The vacation days that were not used will be paid out to the individual on their last check.  The first 40 hours are paid from HR and any additional time will be paid from the project(s) they were working on at the time of their termination.  On their last day, they need to stop by the office to return their keys and Wildcard.

How do I promote my post-doc to Research Assistant Professor

How do I update my address and/or phone number, enroll or change my direct deposit, view my benefit information and/or payslips.

Go the HRIS self-service web page.  https://nuhr.northwestern.edu  Use your net ID and password to log in.  There are links on the homepage to change your address and phone number.  For direct deposit and pay slip viewing, click on the payroll link and follow the instructions.  For Benefit information, click on the Benefits link.  For more information regarding benefits, please see their website at: http://www.northwestern.edu/hr/benefits/

How do I change my name

Fill out an updated personal data form  http://www.northwestern.edu/hr/hris/personal/payroll/personaldataform.pdf Bring the form and a copy of your new social security card to the office.  If you are a student, you will also need to go to the Registrar’s Office to change your name in Caesar.  You will need to take your new social security card, picture ID, and a copy of legal documentation confirming your new legal name change.  Contact the Registrar for further information:   847-491-5234 or nu-registrar@northwestern.edu.

How do employees get their Hepatitis B vaccination 

Please fill out the following form:  http://www.northwestern.edu/research-safety/biosafe/bbp/bbp-cwf.htm and bring it to the office.  Once Jimmy signs the forms, take the forms to NMH Corporate Health.  NMH Corporate Health is located in Suite 9-240 of the Galter Pavilion, 201 East Huron, Chicago, Illinois (telephone 312.926.8282.)

Parking Information:

Monthly Parking –

Currently Microbiology-Immunology Department has a waiting list for a parking spaces in the Northwestern University garage.  Please contact the office if you wish to be added to the list. 

 

Daily Parking –

Chicago campus:

Depending on availability, parking vouchers are available for Lot C: the 222 E. Huron Self-Park and Lot D: 321 E. Erie parking structure.  Vouchers cost $5.75 for 6 hours of parking, or $12 for 24 hours of parking.  Please see Jimmy Gurchek in the office if you need a parking voucher. 

 

Evanston campus:
